On Monday, September 02, 2019, John (Johnny) Williams, loving husband and father of two children, peacefully passed away at the age of 74 in Temple, Texas. John was born on June 29, 1945 in Calhoun, LA to Perry Earle and Lillian Irene (Irvin) Williams. He received his master’s degree in Theology, after which he spent his life devoted to his Lord and Savior; working as a pastor, minister and entrepreneur. On December 3, 1966, he married Mary Ellen Duncan in West Monroe, LA. Together they raised two children, David and Christy, both of whom he loved and was very proud of.
John was a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor and love of life. He and his wife dreamt of seeing the country in an RV while helping those in need. In life he was dedicated to his community, serving as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a church youth director. He was also a Little League Coach, a supporter of youth programs, a volunteer fireman, an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and a hospice volunteer. His desire to care for and help others knew no bounds and for that he was so very loved.
When not working with the community, John loved to spend time with his mother and father, either talking or fishing. He enjoyed spelunking (caving) with his children and the community’s youth, and he enjoyed playing board games with anyone, so long as they were up for a challenge! Perhaps his most cherished pastime, however, was ballroom dancing with his beloved wife.
John was preceded in death by his parents Perry and Lillian, his brother Earl, and his grand dog Dallas. He is survived and cherished by his wife Mary, his children David and Christy, his sister Marian Marsalis, many loved nieces and nephews, in-laws, friends as well as a grand dog named Wookie.
As there will be no public services, the family asks that you please, in lieu of flowers, donate to research for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Donations can made at, mailed to Cure PSP 1216 Broadway, 2nd floor New York, NY 10001, or by calling (433)-578-5670.
Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
