Obituary

Donald David Ellis Sr., age 86, of Troy passed from this life during the evening hours of Sunday, September 1, 2019 at his home. Born on the 14th day of April 1933 in Troy he was the son of Clebert and Lillian (Woods) Ellis.

Donald, most affectionally known by his friends as “Duck,” grew up in Troy and has been a resident there for his entire life. In his early years Donald graduated from Troy High School. He served his country proudly as a Korean War Era veteran of the United States Army. On September 13, 1975 in Troy Donald would make his union with Sandra Stutzman binding. The two would walk hand in hand through life together enjoying each other’s company as a family. Donald loved life and loved spending time with his family. He was a kind-hearted man that would lend a hand to anyone in need. His quick wit and his wonderful sense of humor always made him the one to go to when you need a good laugh. He owned and operated Don’s A-1 Builders, Inc. for many years. But, most importantly of all Donald knew his Lord and Savior and knew of his eternal reward in heaven when his time here was complete. Donald was a deacon in the Baptist church in Troy as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clebert and Lillian as well as his 3 brothers Bill, Claude and Kenneth Ellis, and 2 sisters Ramona Jackson and Rosa Mae Modglin.

Donald leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Sandra Ellis of Troy and his 5 children Melissa Murphy and husband Arnold of Killeen, Brad Ellis of Troy, Dave Ellis of Colorado, Cindy Grimsley of California and Sharah Kling of Kentucky. He also leaves behind his 3 brothers C.F., Jimmy and Benny Ellis and his 2 sisters Barbara Biskup and Dolores Dale all of Troy. 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren are also surviving.

A family and friend visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home Chapel from 6 – 8 o’clock p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10 o’clock a.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple is entrusted with the arrangements.
