Obituary

What happens the moment St. Peter tells Tom he can enter Heaven?

He says, “That’s amazing... but first I got a good joke for you!!”

(How could we possibly, begin our dad’s obituary without first telling a joke?)

But seriously,

Thomas Nalley, age 72, of Bartlett passed from this life during the morning hours of

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Community Living Center on the VA Campus. Born on the 21st day of

February 1947 in San Angelo, Texas he was the son of Olburn and Carol (Laws) Nalley.

Tom served his country in the United States Navy as a proud Boatswain’s Mate from 1966 – 1971.

As a father of 3 daughters, he often joked that he had no one in which to relate. In response, he started his own Boy Scout troop, and adopted his nephews and family friends as the sons he never had.

Tom was a proud native Texan.

His favorite hobby was to search for arrowheads and Indian artifacts in the desert. He loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors as much as he could be.

Tom was an infamous comedian and loved to pull pranks and tell a good joke every chance he got.

Even though he considered himself a lifelong El Pasoan, Tom has been in the central Texas area for the past 31 years. He was a member of the Little River Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents Neal and Carol as well as 2 brothers Randy and Grady Nalley.

Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory his 3 daughters Jennifer Storey and husband Dennis, Jeannie

Nalley and Catie Oostdam and husband John. He also leaves behind his sisters Anita Corley, Susy Ruby, Mary Rebe and Betty Ann Bussell. Also, 4 grandchildren, Kayla, Dennis Jr., Olive and

Amelia as well as his beloved sister-in-laws Karen Ivy and Libby Pairis.

A special thank you to all of the beautiful Angels at the VA Hospice Center. You helped carry him through his time of transition with dignity, comfort and grace.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Tom's honor to his favorite charity, Shriner's Children's Hospital.

Our dad lived life and loved fiercely.. he conquered his battles and won!

To that we say, “Well done, daddy.. well done!”

Jennifer, Jeannie, Catie...I am so thankful that we are cousins and that your Dad was part of my life. I have such great memories of our time together. Your dad had an enormous heart. He felt things more than the average person. He was in no way "lukewarm". When he had an opinion...he let you know it. When he ate food, it had flavor. When he gave you a Jalapeno...it was a spicy one. And when he honked the horn on the jeep...you knew it was him. My point is, your dad was exactly what the Bible called us all to be. He was salty. He was not bland. He was a light shining on a hilltop...there was no hiding your dad. When he entered a room, you knew he was there. And when he left this earth, the world was left missing some flavor and light. I am so incredibly sorry that I can not be there with you all today. My whole family mourns with you today, and anxiously looks forward to the day when we can all be reunited.

Sincerely,

Leo J. Corley
