Obituary for Michael Steven Mnahoncak Jr.

Michael Steven Mnahoncak Jr., aged 73 years, of Taylor passed from this life on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at his home. Mike was born on the 12th day of March 1945 in Johnson City, New York to parents Michael and Helen (Petrosky) Mnahoncak.

During his earlier years Mike attended and graduated from Maine-Endwell Senior High School in Johnson City, New York. When he was 20 years Mike found himself enlisted in the United States Army. He would end up spending over a year in the Republic of Vietnam (‘66- ‘67) where he would be awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and two O/S Bars. In 1985 Mike met Pat Rodgers in Buda, Texas and they would end up spending the next 33 years together side by side.

Mike was a person that could be described as “unique”. He was a friend to many and was always ready to have a good time. If there wasn't a good time to be had, it was OK because according to Mike he couldn't see it from his house. Mike made his living in the construction and building trade and was known to have donated some of his talents to the local churches in Taylor with whatever they needed. He would BBQ every Sunday and was generous enough to take some of his home cooking to the local nursing homes to share with the residents. He even would take breakfast tacos to the ladies at the bank on occasion. Mike was a giving and selfless soul; he would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. Mike has been a resident of Taylor for many years and was Polish Catholic.

He is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Helen as well as 1 granddaughter Bethany Gruich.

Mike leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Pat Rodgers of Taylor, son Michael Gruich and wife Lori of Iowa, son Kris Rodgers of New Braunfels and daughter Melinda Ryan and husband Jerome of Taylor. He also leaves 6 siblings; Bob Mnahoncak and wife Joanne, John Mnahoncak and wife Margaret, Mary Perkins and husband Bill, Sally Cooper and husband Dave, Janie Patinka and husband Phillip and Eva Temple. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and numerous extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. The United States Army will render honors.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
