Obituary

Garland Eugene Bartek, age 73, of Temple passed from this life during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his home. Born on the 5th day of March 1946 in Temple he was the son of Louis and Lorene (Surovik) Bartek.

Garland has lived in Bell County for his entire life. During his early years he attended school in Academy where he did graduate high school. After high school he enlisted into the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. In December of 1977 Garland married Lillian Harris. Together they have walked hand in hand for the past 41 years building a life together. Garland built a career as a brakeman and a switchman for the railroad. After 22 years at the railroad he went on to work at Wilsonart for several years. He loved to be outside. He took pride in a well-manicured lawn and enjoyed to bar-b-que whenever he got the chance. After a long day of working outside you could always find Garland watching a little bit of TV before bedtime with a bowl of Blue-Bell ice cream. Garland has been a Catholic for his entire life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Lorene, 1 brother Norman Bartek and 1 grandson Joshua Culp.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Lillian Bartek of Temple, son Damon Bartek and daughter Kristen Culp both of Heidenheimer and son Shawn Fontz of Troy. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Hewett-Arney Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

I knew your husband, dad, granddad when we were in high school. I remember Garland as a sweet, thoughtful young man. He gave me a little Chihuahua for Christmas one year. The dog was so tiny I was able to carry him around in the pocket of my coat. One of the best presents anyone ever gave me.
Sending my condolences of the loss of your beloved Garland. Janie Bush, Dallas TX

We would like to express our sincere condolences to you and your family. With deep sympathy, we share your sorrow, after the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we’ve shared with our loved ones who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us. May God give you the strength to endure the pain you are going through and may he embrace you and comfort your family during this difficult time."Jesus said to her: 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life.'"-John 11:25
