Willis Cannon, aged 77 years, of Houston passed away peacefully with his family by his side at a Houston hospice facility. He was born on the 9th day of March 1941 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia to Edward and Elva (Brown) Cannon.
Willis was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served overseas in Korea. Willis married Dory’ce Russell in Emporia, Virginia on December 1, 1962 and from there they would spend the next 42 years together until her passing in 2004. He was a member of the National Rifle Association as well as his local VFW Post, he was a Christian and had been a resident of Houston for the past 35 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dory’ce, his parents Edward and Elva, twin boys Willis and Shane Angel as well as one brother Bill Cannon.
Willis leaves behind to cherish his memory his 4 children Earl Cannon of Pearland, Maverick Cannon and wife Liz of Westphalia, Kristie Chavarria and husband Albert of Houston and Vickie Beard of Killeen. He also is survived by 1 sister Jean Bishop of Virginia, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Willis will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Hewett-Arney Funeral Home in Temple, Texas starting at 11:30 AM. The family will begin to greet visitors at the funeral home starting at 10 AM the morning of the service. A burial will follow immediately after the service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with honors being given by the United States Army.
