Nicholas Gandy Jr.
A man well loved by his family and friends joined his brothers and sisters in God’s hands. Nicholas William Gandy (NW)(Bugs) left us on January 31, 2018. He was born September 6, 1927 in Yarrelton, Texas to Nick W. and Ida Mae (Russell) Gandy. Working any and every job he could find growing up, he planned his career of 44 years with Lone Star Gas. In April of 1949 he married his dance partner, baseball fan and love of his life, Bertie Helbert Gandy. His brother Willard Gandy introduced them with “I found a girlfriend for you” and he was correct. They spent the next 69 years of love and laughter, working, traveling, dancing, supporting every baseball and basketball team that they could. The couple was a staple at Temple High School, Temple College, and Mary Hardin Baylor games. Their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews could always depend on their attendance at a game.
Dad was always known to send everyone who came to the house home with a full belly. He would offer food and drink as soon as you came in and encouraged you to “Eat a Plenty”. If you left hungry it was your own fault.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Evelyn Gandy Lofton and Myrtle Gandy Hill , brothers Coy (Mann) Gandy and Kenneth
(Kenny) Gandy. He is survived by his wife Bertie and children Nick (Becky) Gandy, Glen (Tamara) Gandy, Brad (Katharina/Kitty) and Carol Gandy Estrada and one brother Willard (Mildred) Gandy. Nick and Bertie have 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Family visitation will be held Tuesday February 6th from 6 to 8 pm at Hewett-Arney funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to donate to your charity of choice.
