Sharon Shafer (McGoldrick)
Sharon Lynn Shafer, age 61, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 12th at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on July 20th, 1956 at St. Edward hospital in Cameron, TX to James and Mabel McGoldrick.
Sharon attended Temple High School where she was a member of the marching band. After high school, she attended Temple College before entering the workforce. Sharon worked for different places before finding her calling at Academy Independent School District where she worked for 30 years. Sharon’s devotion to others impacted many lives of students, teachers and members of the community.
She married the love of her life, Jerry Shafer in December of 1980 and together raised their 3 children. Her true joy in her life was her family. She loved spending each available moment giving herself as wife, mother and grandmother. Sharon enjoyed being outdoors and many memories were made on summer camping trips, planting flowers with her grandkids and playing at the park.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her father James McGoldrick and her granddaughter, Prairie.
She is survived by her mother - Mabel McGoldrick, two sons - James Shafer and his wife Cheyenne and their three children - Ashley, Cory and Lauren; Dustin Shafer and his wife Holly, one daughter- Stacey Ehler and her husband Jason and their two children - Blaine and Lauren, one brother - Rick and his late wife Mary. Two sisters - Nancy and husband Bobby; Donna and husband Joe as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services for Sharon will be Monday, December 18th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Academy. Visitation is Sunday evening from 5-7 pm at the church as well. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Academy, the Academy High School Educators Scholarship or Kindred Hospice.
